Forgive Yourself

How do we transcend the mistakes we made when we were young? Many of us live with deep scars that can unconsciously affect our decision making as an adult. In response, many philosophies have adopted the concept of making amends to those we have wronged. This is proven to be a powerful mechanism for personal growth. So how do we start the process of making amends with ourselves?   Author David Richo believes that we should “sit with ourselves” , like we would when a friend is having a bad day. Listening without judgement to the thoughts that pass through our mind will cause them to fade, little by little. This technique can be used to forgive ourselves once and for all. It takes strength to begin this journey, as we want so badly to move on without dwelling on the past.    Let’s create a habit of listening patiently to our more flawed side, strive to embrace our mistakes, and make peace with ourselves.
